My original post:
We all hear about the scams and ripoffs, going around on the internet. Well the other day one was sent to me, hoping that i was not only new to the internet, but just born as well. This con acts as if I were selected randomly, to win this great money prize, and then to top it off, it says That it is promoted and sponsored by such personalities as THE SULTAN OF BRUNEI, BILL GATES OF MICROSOFT INC, and some others. What a dumb scam. I trashed it immediately. I could only guess what they would have asked me to do, if I replied to it (receive a cashiers check, cash it at my bank and then send them a portion of it for a processing fee,so they can send me the prize, or something like that)
Here is what was messaged to me from my Yahoo blog:

myself got same mail Dave
I got very similar e-mail. thanks for the heads up. Dave
Check out my latest post on what to do about this spam
http://bargainprofessor.wordpress.com/2006/09/26/what-to-do-about-spam/
i recieved an official certified true copy of my winnings whew 815,960 euros lucky me f-ing african ripoffs i was going to split the brooklyn bridge with then too dang it.
It is always best to not ever open an e-mail from any unknown source. Once you do “they” know they have found a live address. Some are coupled with virus’ as well. Especially those with attachments.
Also clicking on the “unsubscribe link” does more harm than good. It only heightens the chances of receiving more spam. Just delete and empty the trash.
An interesting site that is somewhat amusing:
419Baiter.com “Stringing-along 419 scammers for my amusement”
http://www.419baiter.com/links.html
Warning: Some links within contain offensive adult content. McAfee SiteAdvisor and SocketShield have given the green light as far as the saftey of the sites themselves though.
what does the “LWNCL” stand for?
Thanks for nothing!!! These type of scams ore unnecessary, immoral and prey on those lees fortunate than others!!! I hope you get caught and punished to the full extent of the law.
I’ve received similar e-mail in MY SCHOOL’s e-mail !! how is that possible?? but its not for a lottery draw though, it says…
All participants in this program have been selected through a computer ballot system
drawn from 5000 University websites in North and South America, Asia, Australia,
Europe, Middle East and West Africa in August 2006.
and i wonder what would happen if i replied the e-mail… what would be likely to happen???

PAST WINNERS IN COCA-COLA ONLINE PROMOTIONS!!!
It’s a shame that this is all part of being online. I still get these emails on a regular basis. I don’t even bother to open them, like velvethammer posted, Don’t even open them as they do know when their email is opened and they now have a “Live One”. This is possible with any spam email.
Just a couple of tips, which I have posted before:
Get a free “Disposable” email address from Yahoo or somewhere else, and use it for signing up for websites, etc. This way when you start to get spammed, you can just throw away the email account. Keep a personal email for private use…..Don’t give it out to strangers.
I get many emails from local Banks, which I do not even have accounts with, asking me to update my personal information. Report any phishing or “Spoof” emails, such as a bank wanting to update your account information, to the authorities, or the bank itself. Here is a repost of a link that, supposedly, checks into fraud emails: UCE@FTC.GOV
ebay and paypal are notorious for phishing emails….DO NOT click on any of the links in their emails, unless you are sure it is from ebay or paypal.
Good Luck.
Kindly be informed that I received the following email:

that’s right folks ! it’s TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE ! I was once a victim of
impostor bill gates …yeah ! they even have photos and signatures on
it (i wonder if those people on photo are still alive)…
anyway, i rang them in london office..well at least i spoke to a real
person…they sent me a form thru email to fill it up…and so i did ! ..
next thing they asked me to pay for processing fee ..what a crap i
said..so i emailed them back to tell them to deduct the fees from my
winnings cuz i am bankrupt at the moment…no more msg after that…
this is a subtle way of terrorist attack…now they’re sending it via subject header so not to be filtered as a spam ….not even yahoo can filter it so i closed my account and created a new account ..
i thought with this hi tech now i’m in a friendly user environment ..but not anymore..there a lot of of USERS now who wants to use you in anyway …so be vigilant !!!

Thanks for your comment.
The Television News Show Frontline did an expose on some of these Nigerian scammers and how they operate. It was the same story that my readers have been commenting about here. Maybe more people will wise up to this scam….Just remember to put greed aside and if it sounds too good to be true…….it probably is
Even i gotta mail sayin same…i replied n gotta mail to fill..wht to be done?

Hey Vineet, don’t send them any money….Check out the links at the top of this post and read some of the comments from victims.
For the love of God people.
Don’t even open an e-mail if you do not know the sender.
Sigh, I’ll repeat myself.
It is always best to not ever open an e-mail from any unknown source. Once you do “they” know they have found a live address. And your e-mail address is sold across the internet. Some are coupled with virus’ as well. Especially those with attachments.

They are all SCAMS! How can you win something that you did not enter yourself.
Hi. I got one and I actually sent them my info back. What should I do from here? Please help!!
Jessie, As long as you don’t give them any financial information, or send them any money, you’re pretty safe. The worst that can happen now is they will keep sending you these scams. I would report them ASAP. Download the pdf file at the beginning of my post, as it tells a little bit about how to protect yourself from these scam artists. Also here is where you can report them, but I don’t believe that it will do much good. Read this post for help reporting these scammers

Greetings!
I have been waiting for you since to contact me for your Confirmable
Bank Draft of $800.000.00 United States Dollars, but I did not hear from
you since that time. Then I went and deposited the Draft with FEDEX
COURIER SERVICE, West Africa, I travelled out of the country for a 3
Months Course and I will not come back till end of October. What you have
to do now is to contact the FEDEX COURIER SERVICE as soon as possible to
know when they will deliver your package to you because of the
expiring date. For your information, I have paid for the delivering Charge,
Insurance premium and Clearance Certificate Fee of the Cheque showing
that it is not a Drug Money or meant to sponsor Terrorist attack in your
Country.
The only money you will send to the FEDEX COURIER SERVICE to deliver
your Draft direct to your postal Address in your country is ($180.00) US
Dollars only being Security Keeping Fee of the Courier Company so far.
Again, I wou! ld have paid that but they said no because they don’t know
when you will contact them and in case of demurrage. You have to contact
the FEDEX COURIER SERVICE now for the delivery of your Draft with this
information below:
Contact Person: Dr Mrs.Meme James
Email Address: fedexcourierserviceng234@gmail.com
Finally, make sure that you reconfirm your Postal address() and Direct
telephone number to them again to avoid any mistake on the Delivery and
ask them to give you the tracking number to enable you track your
package over there and know when it will get to your address. Let me repeat
again, try to contact them as soon as you receive this mail to avoid
any further delay and remember to pay them their Security Keeping fee of
$180.00 US Dollars for their immediate action.
You should also let me know through email as soon as you receive your
Draft.

My Reply:
Dear Mr. COCKS:
Please stick this scam completely up your ass as far as it will go!
Send me 100.00 USD for processing your bullshit and I will send you a picture of me, an American, enjoying all the riches and spoils that this great country, America, affords me.
Furthermore you and your kind smell like shit and should take a bath in elephant and monkey piss so you will smell better.
Thank you, you liver lipped baboon!

Dear giver of free money:
My name is sucker Turniptruck, (Turnip truck, like the one you think I fell off of)
My address is — I live in the greatest country in the world America, and don’t need your fake lottery winning scam.
GOD BLESS THE USAas he has and always will.
You and your kind are lower than the sewer rats living in the shit infested raw sewage that plagues you and your cities filled with ugly terrorists and stink ridden pieces of crap that have nothing else to do but send out illegal phony lottery winning notifications. I would not send you a box of my hot and steamy shit, so you could stay warm in the winter, let alone a processing fee, which you will ask me for. You are an Asshole!
Crawl back under the rock you came from and take your fake, stupid, email scams back with you. You must be using a computer that was stolen, from some misguided tourist, to send these emails out, as you probably don’t even own a computer because your scams are so stupid, out dated, and saturated throughout the world, no one believes them any longer. GET A JOB! Wash your face and comb your natty lice infested hair, and look for honest work! YOU SUCK ASS!!!!! To use your own stupid meaningless dribble….You were randomly selected for this response by a computerized balloting, powered by the internet, and me, so I could tell you to shove it and post all of this on my blog so even more people around the world can see your illegal and immoral scam. Again I say….YOU SUCK!!!!!!!
You fat faced ugly piece of cow fecal matter(that means shit)
I am now awaiting any further emails from them………….
