AOL fires customer rep from “nightmare” phone call

The AOL customer representative from the other side of “The nightmare of canceling AOL” phone call conversation, has been fired by the company. The phone call, which was released to the public, received a lot of attention in the blogosphere community, and even made front page at the newly launched Netscape Beta site.

AOL spokesperson Nicholas Graham issued the following statement:

“At AOL, we have zero-tolerance for customer care incidents like this – which is deeply regrettable and also absolutely inexcusable. The employee in question violated our customer service guidelines and practices, and everything that AOL believes to be important in customer care – chief among them being respect for the member, and swiftly honoring their requests. This matter was dealt with immediately and appropriately, and the employee cited here is no longer with the Company.”

I was charged for AOL services because a free package was placed on my computer when I purchased it. This service was cancelled immediately and I purchased an internet service with another provider. AOL continued to deduct money from my checking account. I made several phone calls and finally they stopped taking money out of my account, but they refuse to refund money they were unauthorized to take from my account. I have repeatedly tried to get this money back, have sent a registered, certified letter they signed for and they refuse to respond. Every time I go through their elaborate phone system, I am disconnected after about the 6th transfer. The address they gave me is not current, apparently although the post office forwarded my letter to them. I want my $800 back! This is illegal. What can I do?
