More Lottery Scams

ATTENTION! For all of you who are fed up with these spammers and con artists, I have found a path to a spammer’s email. As of right now, 10/29/07, it is valid. This idiot spammed one of my blogs with a page that leads to even more spam and he used a proxy ip, of course. Here is his email address kliopik@gmail.com Let’s see if he likes to be spammed.

I have received a large amount of hits, and several comments from a post I made on this blog, a while ago, which talks about the Nigerian scams, and other scams from Canada, Great Brittan, and elsewhere, titled THE BIG SCAM

This deals with Chelsea promotions, coca cola and yahoo phony lottery winning notifications.

I, and others, have warned people not to open these emails and especially do not reply to them with any personal information. This said, I did reply to the latest one that I received from fake Yahoo UK. I could not resist.. I was fed up with this crap and had to say something…..at least this one time.

I posted their initial email to me, and if I get a response to the one I sent them (doubtful) I will post it here.

Here is the latest scam I received, including the so called “Confidential Winners Information” If you read the email you will see numerous spelling errors, I highlighted them in red, but it does not show up on this blog. It is almost like the monkey that wrote it, did not understand proper english. (yes I know spelling in the UK is a bit different from the US, but this is more than that.)

    Sorry to be pedantic, but the senders of these scam emails may say they are from Britain or Canada, but I’ll bet you next year’s shoe money they aren’t. They are simply associating themselves with those countries to acquire an air of legitimacy.

    Once again, sorry, but I’m a Brit and I don’t like to see my country associated with this sort of thing. Especially when I know less than 1% of scam/spam emails are sent from this country.

I can appreciate your loyalty to your country, and I am not accusing it of being a nest to spammers. (maybe islamofacists but not spammers) I just have two questions………..

    1) Where do you believe these scam emails are originating from?

    2) Where do you get the less that 1% information from?

    I read that studies show between 1-5% of spam comes from the UK. A survey, published by CDMS this week, claims that 31 percent of UK companies do not comply with the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations, which bans UK companies from spamming private individuals.

    Organized criminals based in Russia are fueling the rise in the amount of spam sent over the Internet.

    Sorry to say the US does produce the majority of it.

    I can’t comment on general spam, however, in my experience with phishing/advance fee email scam attempts I find most originate from the following areas - Nigeria, Holland, Russia, Spain and the US. Unfortunately it’s true that a small proportion do come from the UK too.

    I would not worry about them doing any damage by having your name, age, and address, other than maybe more of their kind mailing you other scams. At least you did not send them any money and more importantly, you did not give them any bank or credit information.

    You should not feel too foolish, as a lot of people get suckered in to this scam. At least now you know, and you are one less potential victim of these fraudsters.

I did NOT send them the ID information they requested and asked for proof. I also asked them why it would cost $600 to send a parcel from the UK. Their response was that this was a processing fee. They also called me and said they would mail me a certificate of my winnings (which we all know anyone can create with a good print master program).
