UPDATE****

Here is a great site: Click On This>>> How Should Christians Celebrate Christmas

Focus on the Family Action’s research team has updated our Christmas-Friendly Shopping Guide and there is some good news and some bad

news. First, the good news…
Our team has moved four high-profile national retailers from the “Christmas negligent” to the “Christmas friendly” list. This is great news. Go here to access our most up-to-date Christmas Friendly Shopping Guide. Now for the bad news…
Five remain on Focus Action’s “Christmas offensive” retailers list for their apparent abandonment of any mention of “Christmas” in their promotions. Those five are: American Eagle, Banana Republic, Bloomingdales, Lane Bryant and Old Navy.
Help Focus Action send a message to these retailers next week!
With the Christmas shopping season in full swing, I want to send these five “Christmas offensive” retailers a strong message from tens of thousands of citizens like you. That’s why, next week, Focus Action will be sending our “I Stand for Christmas” petitions to each of these five offenders.
I’m so thankful to count your petition among the more than 64,000 petitions we have already collected. I would like to send at least 100,000 petitions to these retailers. Would you help us reach more like-minded citizens?

Please forward this message to your friends asking them to sign our
“I Stand for Christmas” petition.

Merry Tossmass campaign continues to grow
Also, you may be interested to learn that Focus Action’s “Merry Tossmass” campaign continues to gain momentum. Stuart Shepard’s provocative “Stoplight” videos from this year and last year are reaching tens of thousands of viewers. And the feedback we are receiving is encouraging. A woman from Sacramento, California, was so inspired by “Merry Tossmass” that she confronted a store for calling Christmas wreaths “holiday” wreaths. Before she left the store, the signage was changed to “Christmas wreaths” (read about it here).
The effort to silence Christians and censor our faith is so insidious that every action we take is vital. That’s why I’m so encouraged that you have signed our petition. Thank you once again for taking a stand with Focus Action.

Sincerely,

Tom Minnery
Senior Vice President, Government & Public Policy
P.S. If you encounter a “Christmas offensive” retailer in your community or have a story to share about how a retailer responded to your request that they honor Christmas, be sure to let our team know.

  1. This is so silly.

You do know wreaths are pagan symbols, don’t you?

    Happy Festivus! ;)

  2. morsec0de, what is silly….well really sad, is that people like you want to take Christ out of CHRISTmas. Too bad for you it won’t happen.
There will be some stores that will continue to keep Christmas from their advertisements and their proverbial lips, while they profit from the Holiday. This, my unsaved friend, is one reason for the “List”

Just to let you know, since you brought “Symbols” up………Christmas has a lot of Pagan symbolism attached to it. However, In my world, Christmas is a celebration of the birth of Christ, not one of Santa Claus and Reindeer, and all the other appeasement and money making symbols that retailers made it into.

I hope you have a great Christmas and I will pray for your eyes to be opened and your heart to soften. :-)

  3. I have no problem with you celebrating Christmas however you want. Or you boycotting stores to make them say Merry Christmas. I just think it’s silly. And I think I should have the right, as should any business, to celebrate or promote the holiday season however they want.

As long as you’re not against their right to do that, whether or not you agree, I have no problem.

Let’s take a page from Dickens: “You keep Christmas in your own way, and I’ll keep it in mine.”

  4. morsec0de, I am 100% in favor of Capitalism. I am not for stopping anyone from shopping wherever they want to, what I am saying is that I choose not to shop at stores that would promote Holiday sales and profits from Christmas yet eliminate the word Christmas just to appease non Christians. There are other Christians out there, who feel the same so that is why we have this list. We choose NOT to spend our money at stores that want to eliminate anything to do with Christ, or Christmas.

Why you would think my faith is “Silly” is rather interesting. Is it “Silly” to want to eliminate God from every aspect of public life? I think it is alarming! Do you think it is silly to be an atheist?
I don’t think it is but I do think it is sad. Obviously I am not going to convince you to see things the Christian way, and that is not my point at this time. I am supporting the businesses that support our right to celebrate and keep Christ in Christmas. It is up to the stores if they want our business or not.

  5. “Why you would think my faith is “Silly” is rather interesting.”

I find it silly in the same way that I would find it silly if an atheist or group of atheists was refusing to shop at certain stores because they said “Merry Christmas” instead of “Happy Holidays”.

I recognize both your rights to do so and the rights of a non-Christian to do the opposite, but I would find them both quite silly.

“Is it “Silly” to want to eliminate God from every aspect of public life?”

It depends on how you’re using the word “public”. And I’m not trying to play with semantics. “Public” could both mean ‘out where everyone can see it’ and ‘owned/operated/managed by the government, and thus owned by all citizens.’ I think religious statements of any stripe are perfectly acceptable in the former but not the latter.

The reason for that is simply to keep it fair. Since ‘public’ property (using the second meaning) is owned by EVERYONE, it would only be fair that if something is there presenting a religious idea, it should cover the religious ideas of EVERYONE. Or at the very least be available for the ideas of everyone.

I would prefer that religion be kept out because it’s easier and there are no conflicts that way. No Christian messages, no Jewish ones, no Muslim ones, no Buddhist ones, and no Secular Humanist ones. But as many Christians and many of those of other faiths seem to think “nothing” is akin to atheism, then religious ideas and items and symbols are inserted. But they can’t have it both ways. If Christian symbols are allowed to be put up, then ALL religious symbols should be allowed up.

And that’s the end of my speech for the day, heh.

  6. Well to sum it all up, it appears that your comments go further than just talking about a store being boycotted by Christians because of the Christian unfriendly attitude they display toward us.

Let us not gt off of the track here….The post is talking about Department Stores not your city hall.

I am not going in to separation of Church and State arguments with this discussion, I am talking about businesses open to the public, not owned, operated or connected to government.
I and many countless millions of Christians are making our voices and concerns heard and respected to the point that if they want our business, they will not be Christian Unfriendly.

To Christians, Christmas is not “Festivus” or any other pagan or bastardized name that eliminates Jesus or the word Christ. I don’t mind the pagan wreaths, stockings and Santa ornaments either. Furthermore I am not asking for equality by being able to see Jesus displayed with all those symbols, though it would be nice. Its just, to use the Liberals word, not “Fair” that it is OK to celebrate Paganism, calling the Holiday (Holy Day) anything as long as there is not Christ in the word……Displaying gift wrapped presents under a Tree, all the lights and ornaments designed to portray a celebration, and get people in the mood to spend money buying gifts, but want to eliminate the memory of what the celebration is all about, Jesus Christs Birth.

I know those same people that would have a meltdown if Jesus Christ was on display in the middle of a department store, but are OK with The Devil being displayed for Halloween.
That is another post for another day.

    Thanks for the comments.

  7. “I and many countless millions of Christians are making our voices and concerns heard and respected to the point that if they want our business, they will not be Christian Unfriendly.”

And again, cheers. I support your right to do so wholeheartedly.

“To Christians, Christmas is not “Festivus” or any other pagan or bastardized name that eliminates Jesus or the word Christ.”

Just to be clear, “Festivus” is the name of a fake holiday created by a character from the sitcom Seinfeld. It’s not a pagan reference.

    In case you didn’t know.

“I know those same people that would have a meltdown if Jesus Christ was on display in the middle of a department store, but are OK with The Devil being displayed for Halloween.”

I find those people just as silly, to reuse my own term, as you do. If a private business wants to put up baby Jesus’ (Jesuses? Jesi?) everywhere, why should I care? As long as they aren’t blatantly anti-atheist (or severely bigoted against some other group), or have insane prices, I’ll shop wherever.

Happy Holidays AND Merry Christmas to you.

  8. morsec0de, I know that the name Festivus, came from Georges father on Seinfeld….Very funny episode. I was just using your term “Festivus” along with other “Bastardized” and Pagan terms.

It was a pleasure bantering with you but I fear that neither of us has changed the world..lol
Merry Christmas and Happy Festivus and any other names that I may have missed.

    I guess my questions are:
    1) If you are celebrating Jesus’ birth, why the concern for commercialism associated with it?
    2) Why would you want to promote the pagan symbols if this is about Jesus?
    3) Why not support your local church instead of putting money into the pockets of people who may or may not believe as you do – - and are only being “Christmas Friendly” in order to get your dime (and other Christian Consumers)?
    4) Why do you think that businesses are trying to silence you or censor your faith – - isn’t your faith something personal – - strengthened by the study of your Bible and not shopping at Wal-Mart?

  10. First of all, you have legitimate questions, and I will be happy to answer them even though it seems like you have your own answers in your head already:

What makes you think that we Christians are not supposed to celebrate the birth of Jesus by giving gifts, if we choose to?
We enjoy the smile on a child’s, face, even if you do not.

As for our faith being a “Personal” thing, It is to a point but a Birthday or anniversary are “Personal” Christmas, the birth of Jesus Christ, is not “personal”as it effected the entire world.

Are you suggesting that because we Christians buy gifts, we do not give to our churches? That would be crazy and as far from the truth as one can get. What charitable acts have you done this year? (not a contest just a question)

Anyway even without your support, you can look at the list of Stores conforming and realize….. Toto, or in this case, efilyzarcym, Your not in Kansas anymore.

I hope that you do not take my response to you as confrontational or rude and non caring about your questions, but I get many comments that are hateful to Christians and me personally, because I dare to post and speak what I believe to be the truth, and some people do not like that. Anyway:

Thanks for your comment and Merry Christmas and may God Bless You.

Hey to those who haven’t done their homework, this country was founded for the freedom to practice religion. It was also founded by those who worship God. Our money says.in God we trust! If you moved here, did you move here to change us? If you don’t like our traditions, why don’t you go to a country where you have similar ideas, instead of insulting our traditions that have existed since the founding of the USA????????????????
