Not enough money for Social Security
I received this email today from the ACLJ please check this out.
President Obama could not be more clear, saying in his television address: “If … we default, we would not have enough money to pay all of our bills — bills that include monthly Social Security checks [and] veterans’ benefits ….”
This is not only a moral outrage; it’s just not true.
Our legal analysis has concluded that there is nothing in the Constitution or federal law that would prevent the President from ensuring that seniors and our military heroes get the benefits they are due.
If President Obama will not make it a priority to honor our commitments to those who have paid into the system their whole lives and those who have put their lives on the line for their country, we must urge Congress to take action. Please sign our Petition to Protect Seniors and Our Troops.
Reports have shown that if we default, not only would there be money enough to pay Social Security, Medicare, active duty military pay, and veterans’ affairs programs, there would still be $39 billion remaining each month for other essential services.
Let me be clear. President Obama has both the legal authority and the financial resources to ensure that our seniors and our military heroes receive the benefits they are owed, yet he continues to use scare tactics, threatening those we cherish and respect.
As our nation is faced with this impending debt crisis, our leaders in Washington still have an opportunity to cut the debt and prioritize our spending. We could save billions of dollars just by cutting funding for Planned Parenthood and the abortion industry, the terrorist-led Palestinian Authority and other despotic governments that oppose us at every turn, and pro-abortion ObamaCare.
Yet, President Obama and the liberals in Congress insist that the most important cuts we could make are ending tax breaks for corporate jet owners, while abortions remain a tax-deductible medical expense.
There is still time to prioritize our spending and solve our debt crisis, but we must send a message to Congressional leaders today. Tell Congress to support legislation that prioritizes spending, eliminates tax increases, and protects seniors and our military heroes. Sign the Petition to Protect Seniors and Our Troops.
Thank you for standing with the ACLJ and taking action to protect our seniors, troops, veterans, and values. This is a critical time for the direction our nation is taking, and your voice is vital in reminding Congress of America’s priorities.
Sincerely,
Jay Sekulow
ACLJ Chief Counsel
P.S. In his address to the nation, President Obama urged all Americans to “let your Member of Congress know” how you feel about the debt crisis. It is time to do just that. Forward this email to anyone you know who wants to cut our debt, not our seniors and military heroes benefits, and post our petition on Facebook and Twitter.
Health Care Concerns
Health Care Concerns: Important new information about the battle to create a national health care program. Find out how you can stand with the ACLJ in keeping abortion benefits from being mandated and what it means if government controls the health care system.
The Senate Finance Committee has approved its version of the massive health care overhaul - handing the government a leading role in every American’s health care, including yours.
There is also a troubling provision that would give organizations like Planned Parenthood the authority to run clinics in our public schools,
accountable only to the Department of Health and Human Services.
The next step in this legislative process is crucial. Health care legislation is headed to the Senate and House of Representatives - where the ultimate decisions will be made. Go to ACLJ.org and find out more
Radical Islam targets Christianity
Today I received this from the ACLJ
We’ve got an extremely grave problem on our hands.
In fact, Christians are literally being targeted by one of the most powerful Islamic organizations in the world.
Let me get straight to the matter … The Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC), the largest lobbying body of nations within the United Nations (U.N.) – including countries in the Middle East, Asia and even South America – is pushing an anti-Christian agenda with full force.
They’re attempting to pass a sinister resolution called ”Combating Defamation of Religions.” It sounds palatable -
However, a careful reading shows that it boldly targets men and women of faith, like you and me, who speak out – in any way – against Islam.
Please understand, this radical proposal essentially discriminates against Christians sharing the Good News. It could make the proclamation of your faith an international crime – punishable by imprisonment … even death.
When Supreme Court Justice Scalia said in a recent dissent, ”America is at war with radical Islamists,” he was exactly right.
We are seeing worldwide persecution of Christians as part of the radical Muslim mission to ”take the world for Islam” – by purging Christianity from the face of the earth.
- In Saudi Arabia, a Muslim father violently cut out his young daughter’s tongue and burned her alive upon learning she had become a Christian.
- In Africa, a leading Gospel singer was seized, stuffed into a cargo box – with a single hole for air – and left for a month to go crazy or die. After two years, she was released, fled her captive country, and was granted political asylum in Denmark.
- In Iran, a couple was tortured for reading the Bible.
- Two men in Algeria were tried and convicted for possessing Christian books.
And today we face extremely dangerous threats everywhere because of the one posed by the OIC.
Make no mistake, the ACLJ is absolutely dedicated to combating this perilous resolution at the United Nations.
In fact, our European Centre for Law and Justice (ECLJ) is officially recognized by the U.N. – which is absolutely critical right now as we work aggressively as your voice on this issue.
I am personally leading a team of ACLJ and ECLJ attorneys and staff researching, preparing reports and oral presentations – on your behalf, to protect your religious freedom.
We’re calling on the U.N.’s High Commissioner of Human Rights to vehemently oppose this dangerous resolution and focus instead on improving existing international law to protect the religious beliefs of all individuals.
We need your support, in prayers and giving, as we launch our nationwide campaign to aggressively defeat this bold anti-Christian bigotry.
There is no other choice – we’ve got to win this battle for freedom at the U.N., or the ramifications for Christians will be staggering. Let me hear from you quickly. Thank you

The Return of the Fairness Doctrine

The leadership in Congress is at it again. This time, it is the Chairman of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, Henry Waxman. Numerous media outlets are reporting that he has instructed the Committee’s investigative staff to actively pursue a strategy for reinstating the Fairness Doctrine. From various sources around Capitol Hill, reports are coming that Waxman and his staffers are pushing the Federal Communications Commission to reinstate the Fairness Doctrine, even beginning to quietly claim that the FCC’s rejection of the Fairness Doctrine in 1985 was politically motivated. The reports indicate that Waxman has initiated this investigation specifically because of concerns with the content of programming hosted by the likes of Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity and Mark Levin. As you know from my regular updates, this effort to reinstate the Fairness Doctrine amounts to nothing more than an unconstitutional effort to restrict and censor speech. Imagine a government censor sitting and listening to talk radio with pen and pad in hand taking notes on what radio hosts can and cannot say on the air and then fining them if they cross the line! That’s where we were before the repeal of the Fairness Doctrine back in the 1980s. That’s where Henry Waxman and other Members of Congress want to return talk radio to.Because of this imminent threat, Congressman Mike Pence of Indiana and Congressman Greg Walden of Oregon have redoubled their efforts to pass the Broadcaster Freedom Act, which would prohibit reimplementation of the Fairness Doctrine. The new strategy they are invoking involves a rarely used legislative tactic called a Discharge Petition. Simply put, if a majority of the House of Representatives (218 Members) sign this petition, they can bypass committee proceedings and force the House leadership to put the bill on the calendar, which means the full House will be afforded the opportunity to take an up or down vote on the Broadcaster Freedom Act. Keep in mind that in June, 309 Members voted for an amendment supporting the principles of the Broadcaster Freedom Act. This petition is a way for those 309 Members to stand against the liberal leadership who has refused to schedule a vote on the issue.
The ACLJ and their Office of Government Affairs is currently assisting Congressman Pence and Congressman Walden as they work to obtain the necessary 218 signatures. They will soon need your help in this effort. In the coming days, hey will be asking those of you living in districts represented by Members who have refused to sign the petition to express your support for the Broadcaster Freedom Act. We can make this happen, but time is of the essence. I will keep you posted.
Please support the ACLJ.org and their efforts to protect Americans from liberal threats and control. Also visit the site FREEDOM TO BROADCAST
